Basic Firearms Training

Foundational firearms education for new and developing gun owners, available online or in person.

Class format

  • Online training option: $100
  • In-person training option: $125
  • Current schedule and access instructions are confirmed after registration

Participation requirements

  • No prior firearms training is required
  • The online option does not include live-fire qualification
  • Students handling firearms in person must be legally eligible to do so

  • Safe handling, loading, unloading, and storage
  • Handgun parts, operation, and maintenance
  • Shooting fundamentals and responsible ownership
  • Selecting equipment and continuing skill development

What you’ll receive

  • JPS Training Certificate of Completion

Before class

Know before you register.

  • No prior training or firearm ownership is required.
  • Students must be legally able to possess a firearm and present valid government photo identification.
  • Handguns and holsters are available for qualification; students may bring their own firearm.
  • No live ammunition is permitted during classroom instruction.
  • Fingerprinting and government application fees are not included.
  • Training is non-refundable. One reschedule is permitted with at least 24 hours’ notice.
