Maryland Wear & Carry Permit Training

A 16-hour Maryland permit course with classroom instruction and mandatory live-fire qualification.

Class format

  • Hybrid option: four Tuesday and Thursday Zoom sessions from 6:00–10:00 PM, plus range qualification
  • In-person option: two full days, including range qualification
  • Published times and range location are subject to change

Range qualification

  • At least two hours of live-fire range training
  • 25-round qualification from up to 15 yards
  • A qualifying score of at least 70%

  • Pistol parts, operation, and maintenance
  • Fundamentals of pistol shooting and concealed carry
  • Maryland firearm and self-defense laws
  • Permit application process

What you’ll receive

  • Maryland Wear and Carry Permit Training Qualification Certificate
  • HQL certificate when applicable
  • JPS Training Certificate of Completion

Before class

Know before you register.

  • No prior training or firearm ownership is required.
  • Students must be legally able to possess a firearm and present valid government photo identification.
  • Handguns and holsters are available for qualification; students may bring their own firearm.
  • No live ammunition is permitted during classroom instruction.
  • Fingerprinting and government application fees are not included.
  • Training is non-refundable. One reschedule is permitted with at least 24 hours’ notice.
